Apokoronas Christmas Charity Bazaar Date Announced

Apokoronas hosts its annual Christmas Charity Bazaar on December 7, 2025, at Vamou's Indoor Gym.

Every municipality has its “traditions,” but Apokoronas has a tradition backed by actual results, hundreds of handmade ornaments, and enough goodwill to heat half the prefecture. The Christmas Charity Bazaar returns on Sunday, December 7, at the Vamou Indoor Gym, starting at 9:00 a.m.

It is the kind of event where Cretans, Europeans who moved here “for six months” and stayed for ten years, school kids, cultural associations, and local NGOs all walk in together and somehow form a temporary, functional society. Miracles do happen in December.

What Visitors Will Find (Besides Half the Village)

Participants bring out their best:

  • Handmade creations
  • Ornaments and charms
  • Holiday sweets
  • Crafts that involve glue, glitter, and at least one person whispering, “mama mia, do not touch that yet.”

Visitors can pick up Christmas gifts with the smug satisfaction of knowing that every euro spent ultimately helps someone in need.

All proceeds support the Municipal Social Grocery of Apokoronas, and a parallel food collection will take place because this is Crete and nobody leaves an event without donating a bag of pasta or three cans of something.

The Entertainment: Loud, Cute, and Unavoidable

The day is topped with a complete artistic program:

  • Christmas carols and mantinadas
  • Kids singing (usually in key, always adorable)
  • Music and dance performances
  • Enough festive cheer to melt any remaining cynicism

If you enter grumpy, you will leave humming something embarrassing.

How to Join the Fun

Registrations will run until Friday, December 5, at 15:00, for anyone who wants a stall, a table, or simply an opportunity to showcase their Christmas baking skills.

For information and sign-ups, please call 28253 40300.

And because no Cretan announcement is complete without a heartfelt message:

“Christmas is a celebration of love and giving. With our charity bazaar, we unite forces, schools, organizations, and citizens in one effort of solidarity, support, and hope.”

Sweet, classic, and entirely accurate.

A Nudge From Argophilia

If you live in Apokoronas, you have no excuse.

If you do not live in Apokoronas, you probably wish you did.

Either way, show up, bring a donation, buy something handmade, and help keep the Christmas spirit alive in a region that takes generosity as seriously as raki.
