Andermatt Swiss Alps Gets “Go Ahead” from Associations

Last week, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG (ASS) announced (PDF)having been given the green light by environmental associations for development of new ski areas and services in the Swiss Alps. The new ski arena, Andermatt-Sedrun now offers reliable snow along with bright sunshine.

According to the news, the agreement Andermatt can now go forward developing their environmentally and sustainability sound state of the art ski expansion. The new facilities will consist of; 25 new aerial tramways, combination lifts, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts in the heart of Switzerland. The expansion will connect the holiday regions of Andermatt and Sedrun via the Oberalp pass.

At completion the Andermatt facilities will boast of 120 kilometers plus of ski runs at a near perfect 1500 to 3000 meter altitude. These runs will be designed to accommodate beginners and families, as well as expert skiers. We first reported on Andermatt back in August of last year, detailing the plans of Egyptian business legend Samih Sawiris, and CEO, Gerhard Niesslein (at left).

Of particular interest for skiers desiring better access, the future base station of the Andermatt-Nätschen-Gütsch cable car will be fully integrated into the new Andermatt train station, providing far greater ease in reaching this wonderful ski destination.

Finally, Andermatt-Sedrun is being developed and operated by Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG (ASS), which is a subsidiary of Andermatt Swiss Alps AG. Operational management of ASS is under the domain of the Swedish SkiStar Group, one of the regions prime developer/operator groups.
