Albania Improves Road Infrastructure with New Tirana-Elbasan Highway

Albania is in a building spree: the country is continuously improving its road infrastructure, to facilitate better transport connections and tourist traffic. Several national roads were opened to traffic in recent months, including roads connecting Bilisht and Miras; Drenove and Mallakaster; and many other villages and towns all over the territory.

More recently, Albania opened to public traffic the Krabba tunnel on the newly developed Tirane – Elbasan highway. This 27-kilometre stretch of fast lanes will ease traffic between Albania and Macedonia, and hopefully will boost local economy, not only in regards to tourism, but also other industries.

It is hoped that Macedonian companies will find the development attractive enough to be encouraged to invest in the region. The development is also designed to enhance rural infrastructure, allowing farmers to quickly bring their produce to domestic and foreign markets, more quickly and with less cost. There are already more than 8000 km of new or reconstructed roads in rural areas, many of them also connecting sites of great tourist interest.

  • Having new roads is very important. At same time it is very important to have them finished in good quality and implement safety measures on our new roads.
Many new roads were inaugurated for election purposes while they are not fully completed :-)

  • Albania needs to invest in better roads int he south where there is a lot of tourism going on.
Tirana - Saranda only 290 Km is covered in 5 hours. This is not right. It has to change asp.
