The Center of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE) has announced Airbnb listings in Greece skyrocketing to more than 126,000 short-term rentals as of June. Airbnb’s rental platform throughout all 13 regions of Greece saw an increase of more than 30,000 listings versus 2017 numbers. The listings on and Greece’s burgeoning tourism are a boom for other sectors too.

According to the respective data, in Attica in June alone there were more than 30,000 listings compared to nearly 26,000 in South Aegean and 22,000 in Crete. These three regions account for more than 60% of all Airbnb listings in Greece. Central Macedonia, the Ionian Islands, and the Peloponnese accounted for just over 26% of listings.

The report reveals total listings followed by Eastern Attica at 19.3%, Saronikos Gulf with 20.3%, Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni southern suburbs with 19.8% and the Markopoulo-Mesogaia areas with 9.8%. Southern Attica attracts 11.0 percent of the total activity with the southern suburbs of Glyfada at 25.2%, Paleo Faliro at 18.2% and Kallithea at 16%.

KEPE also noted that Greek owners use TripAdvisor, Booking.com, HomeAway, HouseTrip, Flipkey, 9Flats, Roomorama, Trivago and StayInAthens to list, as well as Airbnb and other such platforms.

In addition, the dynamic performance of the tourism sector is breathing new life into Greece’s ailing construction industry, with Airbnb as one important variable. Officials say a rise in demand for property, increasing investments and stronger employment rates are due to growing interest in Greece’s soaring tourism figures.
