Forget the stage, the spotlight, and the carefully arranged concert seating. On September 22, Agios Nikolaos invites musicians and singers to take to the streets for an old-fashioned Cretan kantada.
The event is being organized by the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos Tourism Department as part of the celebrations for World Tourism Day, with the aim of filling the city with music and giving both residents and visitors a taste of the island’s hospitality and musical tradition.
And this one is participatory. Musicians who play laouto, violin, or mandolin, along with anyone willing to lend their voice to the evening, are invited to join the musical procession.
The idea is simple: gather a large musical παρέα, wander through the streets of Agios Nikolaos and let the songs do the rest.
According to the municipality, the kantada is intended to bring locals and visitors together through music while highlighting the area’s culture and warm hospitality.
The event will take place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Agios Nikolaos.
