Abacus Becomes First Foreign GDS in China

Abacus, a leading Asia-Pacific leader in travel tech, has announced being the first foreign global distribution system (GDS) to issue airline tickets customized for China.

According to the news, Abacus has secured a new channel for the China outbound traveler, with a network of travel agents in place on the ground as well. Etihad Airways was chosen as one of four initial air carriers made available for agents to book through Abacus technologies. Robert Bailey, Abacus President and CEO, offered this on the news:

“Etihad Airways is one of 25 major airlines joining Abacus in meeting demand from our expanding mainland distribution grid. There is space for a complementary foreign distribution platform and we are encouraged by the level of interest among international aviation brands and local agents, especially now that Abacus has shown that BSP compliant transactions are happening.”
