5th Tallinn Winter Festival 2010 in Full Swing

The 5th Tallinn Winter Festival 2010 is an annual charity gala that combines good music with the ability to benefit charities in the city. The concerts that take place during the 5th Annual Talinn Winter Festival will fill concert halls and churches in the city with the sound of festive music. The festival opened November 24, 2010, and it will end with the Tallinn Winter Festival Charity Gala December 28, 2010, at  St Charles’ Church.

The theme for the Tallinn Winter Festival is “Tõsta pilk ja ava süda!” which translates into “Open Your Eyes, Open Your Heart” – the perfect motto for an event focused on charity for children with disabilities. Proceeds from the festival will go to the Day Care Centre Käo, which benefits disabled children in the country.

The festival was first held in the winter of 2006, and so 2010 is its fifth successful year of operation. Each year involves the hosting of a number of renowned Estonian musicians combining different genres, instruments, and musical styles. The festival features mainly classical music – some of the most resonant names gracing the programme are Kai Kallastu, Valentina Kremen, Atlan Karp, Kersti Ala-Murr, Tõnu Jõesaar, Lilian Jõesaar, Mari Tampere, Aleksandra Juozapenaite-Eesmaa and many others. The programme includes works from G. Verdi, L. van Beethoven, H. Purcell, J. S. Bach and more.

The Charity Gala for disabled children 28th December 17:30 at St Charles’ Church is free to attend. Don’t miss it if you are in Tallin after Christmas.
