Coming June 4th, the global shipping exhibition Posidonia 2018 promises to be the largest event of its kind ever. According to organizers, as of this week a record number of participants have already signed up to take part. Already 90 percent of its exhibition space has been leased, and there are still over three months left until the Athens event opening.

Posidonia is the shipping industry’s biennial event in Athens, maritime fair that draws global industry leaders and stakeholders in shipyards, shipping companies, mechanical equipment producers and shipping hubs vying to attract Greek interest. This year’s event in Athens will focus on the world’s most influential shipping experts and companies, as well as the business people who support the industry.  Organizers say that over 1,850 firms will be present in a formal capacity, and that many thousands  more will visit the exhibits. Theodore Vokos, executive director of Posidonia Exhibitions SA had this to add:

“Posidonia’s strength and appeal is drawn by the collective quality and reputation of its exhibitors, delegates and visitors, first-timers or repeaters, who commit funds and resources every two years to be part of a signature industry event that is a true celebration of everything shipping stands for.”

A new feature for Posidonia 2018 is the 4th Energy & Shipping Seminar, organized by the Institute of Energy of South East Europe (IENE) on June 8. This will offer an in-depth analysis of global oil and gas markets and examine the factors that define the correlation between energy cargoes and shipping. This year’s event will be held at the Metropolitan Expo Center, next to Athens International Airport, June 4th through June 8th.

Also in the news, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s state oil company, and its partners have elected Posidonia 2018 for the global unveiling of their International Maritime Industries (IMI) joint venture. When the yard is fully operational in 2022, IMI will offer new build and maintenance, repair and overhaul of vessels, including very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and offshore rigs.
